Accessibility
Ensuring Our Website Is Accessible, Fast and User Friendly
We are continually improving the usability and performance of our website, to make sure it is accessible to as many people as possible. Below are details on the accessibility principals we have already applied to our own website design, and to all client websites we design.
If you have any suggestions for how we could improve our website accessibility further, or struggle to access any information contained on the website, please get in touch.
Please note: We refer to W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and W3C Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 documentation when optimising our website for accessibility.
Text
- All text is legible against page backgrounds
- We ensure all text is structured with nested headings, laid out in an optimal way for clear understanding
- You can resize text on our website without loss of content or functionality
- Where crucial text appears in images, we ensure it also appears in normal text
- We explain all jargon in plain English
Images
- Where images are disabled, or not supported, we always provide alternative text. This is implemented as an “alt” attribute for each image
- All images are optimised for use on the web so that they don’t slow down page loading times or cause usability issues
- All issues adhere to best practice recommendations for visibility and contrast
- All images resize responsively and appropriately on mobile devices
Videos
- All of our videos are hosted on and embedded via YouTube. This allows them to have captions (subtitles) so that you can watch them with no sound and still understand the content
- Where a video appears on a page, it is always accompanied by a clear, descriptive header, so that you gain context about what topics the video covers before deciding whether to watch or not
Links
- All links use descriptive text to make their purpose clear
- Page addresses (URLs) are written to make logical sense and be as permanent as possible
- All redirected pages are carefully managed to ensure 404s and link errors are kept to a minimum
Forms
- All form fields are clearly labelled
- If you make a mistake when entering your details into a form on our website, we will clearly describe the error in text, and suggest how to correct it
- Form fields can be easily tabbed between using your keyboard
- All forms can be submitted using the Return or Enter key
Mobile, Script & Visual Design
- We use cascading style sheets (CSS) for visual design and layout
- Our unobtrusive scripts run client side (on your computer rather than our servers) to minimise load times
- We make sure that all pages, headers, buttons and navigation load well on smartphone and tablet screens
- We ensure the website is optimised for ease of use on touch interfaces
- The menu collapses on smaller devices to save space, but can be reopened using the button on the top right hand side
